Infection Control

This workshop will point out the basic principles in building infection prevention and control measures in hospitals, focus on the basic infection prevention practices such as hand hygiene, isolation precautions, cleaning, disinfection and sterilization, moreover, participant will learn the methods and approaches of detecting and managing infection risks, and will be able to deal with outbreaks and conduct outbreak investigations, on the other hand the program will introduce the basic principles of health care associated infection surveillance program.

Objectives

  • Describe the purpose, function and components of infection prevention and control programs
  • Develop the terms of reference for Infection Prevention and Control Committee
  • Develop infection prevention and control policies and procedures
  • Discuss selected strategies to reduce infection risks
  • Identify high risk processes/procedures/areas known to result in infections
  • Summarize infection prevention strategies to reduce the risks associated with therapeutic and diagnostic procedures
  • Identify infection control measures that improve care practices and patient outcomes
  • Select and purchase products that will contribute to good patient outcomes and be safe and cost effective
  • Develop indicators for infection control and prevention, i.e., monitoring hand washing practices, surgical site infection
  • Collect and analyze data related to infection prevention and control indicators
